I am a professional radio DJ / announcer since 1990. I have worked at some of the best / top FM stations in Japan including J-wave, Tokyo FM, FM Yokohama, JFN, FM Fuji, Cross FM etc. I have done numerous narration jobs and also many MC events.
Writing has always been a passion of mine. I started writing a music column for JJ magazine in 1990, and worked on many columns and projects for magazines and such throughout the years. I am an author of three books. "Nijiiro Hawaii no Loco asobi " (Diamond syuppan) , "Daisuki Hawaii" (Sangyo hensyu center) and "Hawaii kara no okurimono ~Happy ni ikiru 50 no kotoba" (Sayzansha).
I work as a professional translator as well. I worked on translating for many Hollywood celebrities, musicians, and people mostly in the Entertainment field. I was able to work on translating the DVD "Evangelion" and many other Japanese comic (manga) in the 90's. Translated many J-pop songs into English lyrics including Kumi Koda hits. That is just my expertise field for my translation, but I can translate pretty much all genre, including legal matters as I have helped with Japanese language assistance for several attorney in the past.
After I moved to Hawaii in 2004, I was a host of very popular FM radio show called Colors of Hawaii for 7 years, and at the same time I produced and co-hosted a TV show called Dokoga TV, which is still on the air on KIKU TV (Originally started on OC16). Currently I am in the process of producing a new TV show set to air soon.
I love new challenges and would be happy to work with you on any project
no matter the size or scope. Mahalo for your interest in me!

Radio show host. J-wave Colors of Hawaii
2005 - March 2012
This is my most recent radio show that I worked on, which was a live daily radio broadcast from Hawaii to Japan. I was able to release a book based on this program called Nijiiro Hawaii no Loco Asobi, as well as a CD (Hawaiian music compilation CD) based on this show. This has definitely become a signature show of my career. Many listeners would come all the way from Japan to the studio in Hawaii to see the live broadcast. Without them, the show would have never survived that long. I always had my dog Pepe with me in the studio, he never made noise during the live radio show, and was probably one of the few radio shows that a DJ had a dog in the studio... Due to being in radio for over 20 years, I don't miss the hectic work schedule, but I miss the fans and making people happy by sending aloha over the airwaves.
Show Host / Producer Dokoga TV on KIKU TV
2008 - 2011 November
While producing the radio show, bringing the essence of Hawaii to Japan,
I really wanted to bring some of Japan back to the people of Hawaii.
To accomplish that goal, I thought of the idea of producing a modern version of Soko ga shiritai (A very popular Japan travel show on KIKU TV).
I was scared of being on TV, since I was always a radio person. But I realized that the point of this show was not about me. I was really passionate about sharing my home country's culture with people in Hawaii. I felt like, if I have a show about Japan, and if some heartless people decide to steal something from tourists from Japan, and maybe, just maybe they will stop and think, "Oh these people come from the country where I saw on that TV show, Maybe I should not bother them. "
I don't know. But I felt like that was such great idea at that point in my life.
One of the goal of the show was to have better understanding of each other's culture so you may feel more comfortable around each other.
I researched and found the topics through the network of my Japan contacts, booked everything myself, went to Japan and as soon as we landed, we would start shooting and covering many places without caring how I looked (no time!). The show started on OC16, but eventually moved to KIKU TV. Also produced a Korean version of this show for KBFD, and Hawaii version of this show for Hawaiian Airlines. It was extremely busy but a great journey. When all of us traveled to Fukushima right after 3/11, I was devastated and felt helpless. I cried my eyes out on TV. This experience made me think a lot about my life. and as a result, I wanted to move on to something different. I just love people too much, and wanted to focus on different things.
The show is still on the air on KIKU TV, but I am no longer involved in this any more. I packed up my bag along with Pepe and moved on to a different journey. I am currently producing another TV show and hopefully I can share it with you very soon.
My freelance radio career basically started when I was 18 by entering two radio DJ contests. First one being International DJ contest held by FM Yokohama.
I made it as a finalist but not chosen as a winner, and second contest was a couple of months later at the American Top 40 DJ contest held by Tokyo FM. Again I made it to the finals but not selected as a winner. Even though I did not get chosen, this experience gave me confidence to be successful as a DJ.
Being a radio show host, I got to work on many interesting shows such as travel show, news show, music and movie (Entertainment) show, and the best part about my job was constantly meeting those wonderful new people. Working for JJ magazine as a music columnist was great. The chief editor at that time gave me a chance, when I did not know anything.
He told me "When chances are given, you have to use it and use it well. You should set a goal, like you become the best interviewer, you can do it." This has always been on the back of my mind and I always strived to be a better interviewer.
Shortly before I moved to Hawaii, I also was an editor /writer/ coordinator for a fashion magazine called Glitter magazine. I enjoy fashion too and worked with a lot of fashion magazines, models and photographers. I am definitely not a model type, but learning those beauty secrets from the professionals was fun. My favorite moment was assisting photographer Martin Parr on Vogue Japon shoot. He was crazy genius and he said he would hire me as his assistant which hopefully meant that I did a good job. It made me so proud of myself!
I enjoy every assignments, and when people ask me what I want to do the most, it is really hard to choose one. It is like being a musician, and being asked what part of your job you like doing the best, writing songs, recording, being with the fans, doing a tour... don't we like them all?
